Sunday, Bloody Sunday 1.30.22

Welcome to the the ALMOST MONDAY edition. There was so much going on today that it was really hard to find time to put the blog together today.

QUICK SOCCER NOTE/FOOTBALL/FORTNITE and WWE Royal Rumble (up to the Brock/Lashley match)

USMNT - LOST… BENGALS WON… it’s a CrAzY NFL season and there’s so much cool stuff going on.

I got to play some Fortnite with the kids today before the games came on this afternoon.

WWE Royal Rumble & Monday Night RAW

There was some disappointment for me in the Royal Rumble this weekend.

The opening match between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins could have been the best match of the night. It’s really hard to be the opener in my opinion. Rollins entering to the SHIELD music was an interesting open to the match. I think it would have been even crazier had they found a way to have Mox come down with him. That would have added such a different feel to the match. Disappointed that this match ended in a DQ finish. I’m getting tired of DQ finishes for champs to retain titles. It actually made me question how another title match on this card was going to end. ROLLINS wins by DQ. Reigns Retains

The Women’s Royal Rumble: this match was the one that I was probably looking the most forward to. Sasha Banks had number one. Number one always gets an exciting entrance but, I never feel like they are going to win. Historically, only 5 men have won the rumble when entering as number one or number two. (Shawn Michaels in 1995, Vince McMahon in 1999, Chris Benoit in 2004, Rey Mysterio in 2006, and Edge in 2021) It made for a really interesting selection to put Banks in at one. I immediately was thinking OMG, BAYLEY is coming out as two. Then, I was hit with total disappointment as Melina’s music hit.

The Impact Women’s Champion Mickie James made an appearance in a nice little forbidden door moment. Ultimately, THIS moment was my biggest OOOO moment.

As soon as she came in, I knew what the finish was. I didn’t even have to think about what the finish was going to be. I’m confused though as to why they had Charlotte Flair in the match still. My only thought is because they are going to have Rhonda go after Flair for the title moving forward. I just find it odd when a title holder is in the Rumble Match given that the winner gets a title shot.

Let’s take a second and chew on this news: I know, it’s from a DIRT SHEET but…. according to Inside the Ropes, WWE has NO CURRENT PLANS for the WWE Championship at “THE GRAND-DADDY OF THEM ALL” Wrestlemania (and yes, I know Vince would hate if he read that.

The RAW Women’s Championship Match is one of those matches where I feel like they just don’t know what to do with female talent. Becky Lynch vs DueDrop. I love Becky Lynch… but I’m not sure that WWE uses her to the best of her ability. At times, I think she get’s over despite the program they have her working. This match could have been a stinker but, I felt like it turned out okay. I ended up not hating this match despite not being a big fan of Doudrop. I hate the name and wish that they could have found a way to get away from it before having her working in this slot. Lynch ended up winning and I didn’t have to throw a remote at my TV. #DoubleWin

Next was the WWE Championship -- Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Bobby Lashley. I found myself wanting to watch them beat the hell out of each other. I ended up waiting for the moment that the ref was going to get knocked out… I even called it before it happened. The finish of this match is going to lead to some more story lines between Brock, Roman and Paul as Paul Heyman gave Roman Reigns the title and he knocked Brock out with it. #SHOCKER *sarcasm.

MORE TO COME TOMORROW as I throw out some commentary on the remaining matches before my trip to Monday Night Raw!
